(KETK) - Tyler Tx — Over one-hundred people gathered around the home of Diane Knowles this morning for the 18th annual Knollwood Parade.
Knowles holds the Fourth of July close to her heart.
Her father was a World War II veteran.
"This is a way to honor my dad," Knowles said. "And it's a tradition I want to pass onto my children."
And the tradition extends far beyond the Knowles' family.
"I've been here now for 16 years."
Ruby Aiken has been coming to the parade, sitting in the same spot, since the beginning.
She just celebrated her 90th birthday and said this event is one she'll 'never miss.'
"I love to come and hear the people," Aiken said. "They're laughing and happy."
And one of the happiest people... was a little girl named Ashley.
The reason behind her smile?
"Because I got to see fireworks," Ashley said. "They go boom real loud!"
The event also welcomed some newcomers.
"This is the first Fourth of July I've ever spent in America," said Jared MacDonald. "I've been here for two days I've seen more American flags than I've ever seen before. You can tell this means a lot to the people of America."
