Improve your health and have fun at the second annual free 5K Hope Run set for the morning of Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, on the wooded campus of UT Health Northeast, located at the corner of U.S. 271 and Texas Highway 155.

More than 750 runners, walkers, and ramblers are expected to attend the 5K run, the 1-mile walk, or participate in activities for the whole family, including a car show and bounce house. All events are free.

UT Health President Dr. Kirk A. Calhoun will open the 5K race, which begins at 8 a.m., and the 1-mile walk or run, which begins at 8:30 a.m. The 5K will follow a winding course through the forest of pines that cover most of UT Health’s 600 acres, while the 1 mile course will take walkers across its beautiful campus.

“We’re hosting the Hope 5K/1-Mile Walk to highlight wellness activities for our employees and the community, and to raise awareness of the importance of healthy living. We also want the community to visit our campus and see all that we have to offer, including nationally known specialists in lung disease and a state-of-the-art cancer center,” said David Conley, UT Health’s wellness and training coordinator.

There is no cost to enter the race, but registration is required. You may register online at; on-site registration begins at 7 a.m.
