From dirt to dreamland, Bullard kid community park opens Sunday
Bullard (KETK) — --- After a year of planning and organizing and the work of 1,300 volunteers who worked five straight days building East Texas’s newest destination attraction is now open! The Bullard Community Kids park is located off of Old Jacksonville Highway at 708 North Rather Rd.
David Detten is one of the organizers for the park says, "This park is a dream park for the kids since they have invested in it, they took up collections at school they asked what they could have in the park and they got what they wanted."
This playground was built buy the children, for the children. McKenzie Cloud, one of the young volunteers says, "Not only is it ours we actually helped make it."
One of the children playing on the new playground tells KETK his favorite features, "I like the train, and I like the rocket, and I like the rock climbing wall."
Colin Smith, 10-year-old from Bullard says, “I'm very impressed of those red swings, I've never seen any swings like those, they are huge!"
This dream park in Bullard has been a work in progress for a year, but Pam Frederick, Mayor of Bullard, says it's not just the kids that benefit, it's helped the community too, she says, “We have had over 1300 volunteers come out and work on the park and you know that's strengthening our community we've brought friendships together strangers have become friends it's been a big community builder just in itself, just getting it here."
The park is personalized with all the children’s hand prints on special tiles lining the play-scape. Smith explains why he will always love this park, even when he’s older, Smith says, "I did one of those hand prints where you put your hand print on this tile, and I wrote my name on it, so in the future when I have kids i just want to show them this park is special to me and I want to show them my name."
