Frozen to death

January 27, 2009 - 10:27pm
A 93-year old Michigan man freezes to death in his home after the electric company limits his power usage.
Marvin Schur had a large unpaid bill of more than $1,000.
A city utility worker had installed a "limiter" device to restrict the use of electricity.
The medical examiner said Mr. Schur died a "slow and painful death."
The manager of the electric company defended the decision to cut off Mr. Schur's electricity, and said neighbors should check on each other.

Look, it is crimminal to deny services in the winter -period. The whole rest of the nation has laws that prevent just this sort of thing. So get it out of your head that some sort of arrangement needs to be made. If the heat is still on in October- ie the bills are current, then it stays on until April no matter what. That is the law. No limiters No deals No visits Nothing but pure wholesome natural gas and clean flowing AC until April, then you shut them off and turn them over to the collection agency. You see, you need to change the way you think about this. Because you have always had these Draculas applying "limiters" you have come to assume that it is normal...maybe for Michigan, but not for the other 49 states. So just change how you think about it. "Limiters" in the winter are criminal- period

1 year agoI think the tide is turning. You got the weasels on the run. Now with the airing of the CNN report you should follow with a class action civil suit brought about by everyone who has suffered under this city administration. It sounds like there are plenty who have suffered the "limiter" in the winter, but also I now hear an abundance about the malpractice within the city offices themselves. The other thing that is necessary is to bring criminal charges to bare against those who have done this terrible thing. You will in the process discover additional wrong doing, money laundering, expense padding and tax evasion and God only knows what else. Don't let them slip away. Even now documents are being erased and papers shredded. You must move quickly. The only case for leniency should be if the perpetrator(s) repent before the public and make amends. But the window for that is also rapidly closing. I would very much like to read how the good people of Michigan turned this thing around. We are all rooting for you.

1 year agoIt is sad that we have come to the point that the electric company could not let this man pay a set amount to keep it on. What should happen is to tell the manager of the electric company to go green and himself be limited and see if anyone checks on him.
