As the July 31st deadline gets closer, there has still been no indication that the scholarship money Robert Jordan promised from his friend filmmaker Nicolas Sturghill, will be in on time.

But some caring East Texans are working to help, a fund has been set up at East Texas Baptist University, to help go towards these students' education.

Here is the letter ETBU released on Tuesday.

East Texas Baptist University

West Rusk High School Fund

July 30, 2013

On July 30, 2013, the West Rusk High School Fund was established. This fund will provide scholarships to assist the 2013 graduates of West Rusk High School to attend East Texas Baptist University, Marshall, TX.

The funds received will be placed in a restricted account and will be equally distributed to West Rusk graduates who are enrolled full time by August 14, 2013. The funds will be applied to the total bill for the fall semester to assist in reducing the total cost for the student.

Since the first of 5 payments are due and payable by midnight, July 31, 2013, the funds held in the restricted account will apply to reduce balances for the remaining 4 payments. If additional funds are received after August 14, 2013, the fund balance will be held and applied to the accounts of the 2013 graduates for the Fall,2014, with equal treatment as with the initial scholarship. This scholarship will be awarded as long as funds remain in the account. The awarding of this scholarship will comply with all East Texas Baptist University eligibility requirements.

Funds for this scholarship can be added at any time and will be expended on an annual basis to the 2013 West Rusk High School graduates as long funds remain in the scholarship and the students are enrolled full time at East Texas Baptist University.

Make checks payable to East Texas Baptist University and indicate on the check, West Rusk Students. Gifts made to this fund by family members of the students do not qualify for a charitable deduction according to IRS rules and regulations. All other donations are tax deductible and should be sent to:

Thank you KETK but your title makes it seem as though the new community fund is the problem. Possibly add a "That" between money and has. We want people to go to the new fund and donate because the promised scholarships have yet to be paid.
