Water emergency caused by a broken main.

The Associated Press is reporting; Galveston officials have arranged to buy water from Houston to ease a water emergency caused by a broken main.

Work crews have isolated the leak and began repairs Monday on the 42-inch water line that is Galveston County's primary drinking water source.

Galveston City Manager Steve LeBlanc says some water is flowing through the damaged line, but the rate is much lower than normal. A small leak was discovered two months ago, but experts on Friday discovered the break has gotten worse.

The county has been under emergency water rationing since Saturday, meaning no watering lawns, washing cars or filling pools.
