HOUSTON, TX — Gang rivalry appears to be the motive behind Wednesday morning's stabbing at Spring High School that left a teenager dead, three others injured and a 17-year-old charged with murder, authorities said Thursday.
Luis Alonzo Alfaro, who was charged in the stabbing, remains in the Harris County Jail on $150,000 bail.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office on Thursday issued a news release stating the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Joshua Broussard was gang-related, but included no further information about the rivalry. Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia said Wednesday that detectives were investigating the possibility that the incident might have been gang-related, but he did not elaborate.
According to court documents, Alfaro told investigators he bumped into a student as he entered the school cafeteria. The two exchanged words and shoved each other. Another student shoved Alfaro and hit him in the left side of his face.
