Gary Mooring named Tyler ISD Superintendent

The Tyler Independent School District Board of Trustees named Mr. Gary Mooring Tyler ISD Superintendentin a unanimous vote at the School Board Workshop on Monday.

“I am honored to be named Tyler ISD Superintendent,” Mr. Mooring said. “I am committed to the District, and to this community. I will continue facing challenges head-on while working closely with the Board and District staff to make decisions that uphold our Core Beliefs.”

Mr. Mooring joined Tyler ISD as interim superintendent in August when former Superintendent Dr. Randy Reid accepted the superintendent position with Keller ISD. 

“Mr. Mooring is an outstanding leader who has brought a wealth of experience to Tyler ISD,” Michelle Carr, Tyler ISD Board of Trustees President, said. “We look forward to continuing to work closely with Mr. Mooring as we strive to reach our goal of being recognized as a premier school district in the state and nation.”

In 2006, Mr. Mooring joined Tyler ISD as deputy superintendent and later served as interim superintendent. He has also served Tyler ISD in other various roles, including: interim executive director for special programs, interim transportation director, and consultant to develop the district’s operations manual. In 2010, Mr. Mooring joined Tyler Junior College as the director of dual credit.

Mr. Mooring began his career in education as a fourth grade gifted and talented teacher at an intermediate school three decades ago. Since then he has served as an assistant principal, principal, and as superintendent of two school districts: Bishop Consolidated Independent School District and Hutto Independent School District.
