The Gilmer Buckeyes' season ended Friday night in Arlington in a loss to the undefeated Navasota Rattlers 39-3.

This is Navasota's first state championship, and the fourth state title game Gilmer has been apart of in last eight years.

Gilmer struck first with a field goal, but never moved their side of the scoreboard again.

The Rattlers rattled off 39 points in a row, with a combination of an unstoppable running game, and an impenetrable defense.

The Bucks only had one loss all season before this title matchup, and was able to win District 16-3A championship, the dreaded District of Doom.

In their playoff run, Gilmer hurdled looming matchups, including a win over the Argyle Eagles, and team that had beat them in the playoffs two years in a row, and a rematch at Lobo Stadium in Longview against the district rival Henderson Lions.

This is a Gilmer team that overachieved week after week, and consistently made second half comebacks all season.

The team is very young, and should be a favorite to win district again in 2013.
