Gilmer teen's charge upgraded to manslaughter in fatal wreck

 GILMER- An Upshur County grand jury on Wednesday indicted a Gilmer teen on a manslaughter charge connected to a Dec. 30 wreck.

Benjamin Lee Powers, 19, had been charged with criminally negligent homicide after the crash that killed passenger 19-year-old Gilmer High senior Caderrius Green.


The charge was upgraded to manslaughter, a second degree felony, as the indictment was returned, according to District Attorney Billy Byrd's office.

Powers remains in the Upshur County Jail, held on $20,000 bond. He is slated for the Feb. 28 docket, according to the county's judicial website.
