Gilmer — It might have been a haul from a medieval battlefield. Six battle axes, 60 swords, five buck knives, eight spears, three clubs and a mace were among the weapons awarded to the city of Gilmer by the Upshur County District Court after what police said were repeated incidents with the items’ owner.

Gilmer Police Chief James Grunden said officers had responded to multiple calls related to the former owner threatening his family members with the weapons. He also occasionally walked down the road displaying the prohibited weapons, Grunden said.
