Girl Run Over By Train

January 24, 2009 - 8:17pm
HOUSTON - An 11-year-old Houston-area girl is in critical condition after losing one leg and seriously injuring the other after being run-over by a train.
Harris County sheriff's officials say the girl and five other children were grabbing the side of slow moving railroad cars while on their bikes.
The girl slipped and fell under the train, that's when the Union Pacific train ran over her legs.
Railroad officials are conducting an investigation.

This is a tragic accident that could have been avoided. I am a mother of three and I know where my children are and who they are with at all times. I would like to know where the parents were when these children were playing with moving trains? Also, how did these children get such easy access to such an area, with their bikes, without any security? This is clearly another incident of parent neglect. I pray the little girl recovers and I hope the children that were with her have learned a valuable lesson about playing in dangerous areas. Most of all, I hope this serves as a wake-up call to the parents of the children, to the fact that they need to watch their children better. It is heart breaking that a little girl has to pay such a high price for others to learn something.
