Gladewater budget could bring rate increases, flat tax rate
GLADEWATER, TX — Potential utility rate increases and a virtually flat property tax rate greeted Gladewater City Council members Thursday, as they hashed through a proposed spending plan for the coming fiscal year.
“This is a whole lot of stuff to digest,” City Manager Sean Pate said at the end of the 140-minute workshop on the budget that will take effect Oct. 1. “There’s some difficult decisions to make, and people are going to be upset.”
Pate’s $7.5 million spending plan broke down to $4.8 million in daily operations and $2.6 million for water and sewer service. The airport and cemetery funds accounted for the remainder of the proposal.
The numbers contrast with this year’s budget, which totals $9.7 million, a difference Pate accounted to revenue from bonds this year that won’t repeat in fiscal 2015.
The 2013-14 budget fund balance is estimated at $1.6 million by the end of this fiscal year.
