Gladewater ISD is removing itself from a shared services arrangement for special education students with other Gregg County schools effective July 1.

Superintendent J.P. Richardson said the decision was made because the district was not being treated equitably in the Gregg County SSA, of which Sabine ISD is the fiscal agent.

“I have spoken with two other SSAs — shared service arrangements — and they have confirmed that the way the Gregg County SSA operates is not the way they run their SSAs,” Richardson said. “We want to be fiscally sound for our taxpayers. We found we can get the same service at Upshur County for less money.”
