Gladewater Police Chief Farrell Alexander postponed his retirement to the end of October in order to prevent any lapse in leadership as the department transitions to a new chief, said City Manager Sean Pate.

“In the meantime, Farrell will be working through Chief (Robert) Vine as it relates to any major managerial decisions,” Pate said. “Chief Vine is set to begin on the 21st of October and Chief Alexander will begin transitioning out at that time and will be available to Chief Vine as needed.”

The Gladewater City Council approved Vine — a 15-year veteran police captain at the Mount Pleasant Police Department — as chief at Thursday’s council meeting.
