WASHINGTON D.C. (KETK) — A raucus crowd of Americans descended upon the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol Tuesday afternoon to rally around politicans speaking out against Obamacare.
The 'Exempt America from Obamacare Rally' took place from noon to 2 p.m. Speaking at the event were several politicans, including Kentucky Senator Rand Paul, Texas Senator Ted Cruz and East Texas Congressman Louie Gohmert.
During his speech, Gohmert passionately spoke out agianst Obamacare, likening it to defending American's healthcare rights as if it was the Alamo.
"We cannot take our eyes off what it will mean to the devestation of healthcare in America if we don't do all we can to stop Obamacare from being funded, Gohmert said. " I'm not talking about the illusion of trying to stop Obamacare, I'm talking about taking a stand because remember, I'm from Texas. We have the Alamo in Texas and we believe in taking a stand for liberty."
Throughout his time on the mic, the crowd roared "Yes!" to question after question Gohmert asked aimed at if the government is infringing on their rights.
To finish up his speech, the congressman led a "Yes we can!" chant, referencing a House majority that can keep funding from Obamacare.
Open enrollment for the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, begins on October 1, 2013.
