Tyler, Texas (KETK) — Andre Thompson continues his quest for the “Salvation Army World Bell Ringing Contest” champion title! He has completed 72 hours with 8 hours and 1 minute to go to beat the existing record of 80 hours! Two other contestants remain, one in San Diego, CA (current weather: 54 and partly cloudy) and the other in Minneapolis, MN (current temperature inside the Northbridge Mall: mid 70’s and clear skies, yes, he’s ringing inside!!!! Grrrrrr!).
The nonstop bell ringing contest is meant to raise awareness for The Salvation Army’s 123rd Red Kettle Campaign and set a new world record. Their efforts are courageous, and will help The Salvation Army assist millions of people this Christmas. Already, Andre has raised over $5,400 in his own personal kettle at Walgreen’s on Rieck Road.
