The SPCA of East Texas will hold its second annual Fur Ball on Saturday, Dec. 7 at the historic Mayfair Building on the East Texas State Fairgrounds with musical entertainment by party band Professor D of Dallas.

“We plan to celebrate the glitz and glamour of Hollywood,” said Deborah Dobbs, president of the SPCA of East Texas. “We have great auction items including a trip to Hollywood to attend the Emmy awards show, a golf trip to the US Open in North Carolina, a trip to Belize, an autographed Bruce Springsteen guitar, Earl Campbell football and a raffle for a gold and diamond necklace.”

Tickets are $125 per person. Space is limited at the event so buy your ticket online at www.spcaeasttx.com or call 903-596-SPCA or 596-7722 for more information.

The SPCA has helped hundreds of homeless and abused dogs, cats and horses find a permanent, forever family since forming in 2010. In 2013, the SPCA opened a temporary adoption center at 5318 Old Bullard Rd. in Tyler which is open every Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Also this year, the SPCA of East Texas received an $85,000 equipment grant from PetSmart Charities to outfit a local spay/neuter clinic. The SPCA is focusing on the areas of Tyler with the highest percentage of strays according to City of Tyler Animal Control. “The major reason being pets that are not spayed or neutered are having multiple litters of puppies or kittens each year, “ said Dobbs. “This grant helps families keep their pet but prevent the unwanted litters.”

The SPCA of East Texas was formed by a group of concerned citizens to build and operate a regional animal services facility. Currently, neither the city of Tyler nor Smith County has a local facility to house stray or neglected dogs for any length of time. On average 60-100 dogs are euthanized each week because of the lack of a community shelter. The SPCA of East Texas is seeking private donations to build a local adoption center in Tyler.
