Tylerite wins age group at Boston Marathon
Tyler (KETK) — An East Texan made his hometown proud Monday when he won the 80+ age group at one of the most heralded races in the world, the Boston Marathon.
Harold Wilson, 81, of Tyler, finished first in his division with a time of 3 hours, 45 minutes and 10 seconds. This was Wilson's 10th time to run the 26.2 mile course. The next closest competitor finished more than an hour and a half behind the Tylerite.
In 2013, the long distance runner was only two blocks away last year when bombs exploded, killing three people and injuring more than 260 others.
Wilson said he began running at the age of 54 when doctors told him he was overweight with high cholesterol, and he's been running ever since.
