Veterans Day is just days away and what better way to celebrate than gather with friends, family and our beloved Veterans to celebrate America's heroes who put their lives on the line so we may enjoy the rights we do.


  • White Oak Independent School District will honor Veterans during a special tribute prior to the Roughnecks' football game against the Jefferson Bulldogs. Festivities will kick off at 7:00 p.m., with kick-off set for 7:30 p.m.


  • "Operation Give Gratitude"  will be held Saturday, at the Gladewater Rodeo Arena. Activities include a 5K run/walk; Kids Fun Run, car show, motorcycle run, live entertainment and auction. Proceeds benefit Camp Patriot.
  • Longview Independent School District will host "Honor America Night" 7:00 p.m., Saturday. Activities include five Longview ISD marching bands, The Viewettes, ROTC and a fireworks display. Active and retired military, as well as Scouts and first responders are admitted free of charge. The gates will open at 5:30 p.m., and a free cake and coffee reception for military members is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., to 6:45 p.m.


  • New Diana Independent School District will host their annual Veterans Day Program at 9:00 a.m., Monday at the Norton Lovell Auditorium in Diana. Fourth and fifth-grade Eagles Singers will perform with a special guest speaker, Ronnie McKinney. A reception for all Veterans and their guests, as well as community members, will follow the program.
  • A Veterans Day program is slated for 11:00 a.m., Monday at the Gregg County Courthouse. It will feature music, speeches, flag presentations and a musical muster of all Veterans attending.
  •  A Veterans Day program will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday in the Ore City High School gym with a reception after in the gym foyer.
  • Longview Independent School District's Ned E. Williams Elementary School will hold its second annual Veterans Day observance at 8:30 a.m., at the flag pole on the front lawn of the campus. In case of rain, the event will take place in the school cafeteria.
  • Kilgore Independent School District will hold a Veterans Day program 9:30 a.m., to 11:30 a.m., Monday in the Kilgore Middle School gymnasium.
  • The city of Kilgore will honor Veterans with a ceremony at 9:00 a.m., Monday at the Unite States Veterans Monument located at 282 East Harris Avenue.
  • Veterans Day activities are on the bill for Monday at Hallsville Junior High School. Veterans will be served breakfast at 8:15 a.m., and a program will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed up by a parade at 10:00 a.m.
  • Henderson Middle School will hold its annual Veterans Day reception and program starting at  8:30 a.m., Monday.
  • The Rusk County Veterans Day ceremony is set for 11:00 a.m., Monday at VFW Post No. 8535 at 1515 Whipporwill in Henderson.
  • Longview Mayor Jay Dean and the Longview High School ROTC will appear Monday at 10:15 a.m., at Summer Meadows, 301 Hollybrook Drive, to help celebrate Veterans Day.
  • The Gladewater Former Students Association will hold “A Salute to Veterans,” a free dinner event at 6:30 p.m., Monday, at the GFSA Building at 2509 Hendricks Street in Gladewater. 


  • Pine Tree Independent School District has set a "Share the Schools" event for Tuesday for veterans, senior citizens, retired educators and retired Pine Tree employees at the Pine Tree Junior High Cafeteria located at 2100 Northwest Loop 281. Breakfast is at 9:00 a.m., and a bus tour of Pine Tree ISD renovations and the new athletic complex will follow. Participants are encouraged to park at the Birch Street entrance to Pirate Stadium and ride the bus which will leave at 8:45 a.m.
  • Spring Hill Independent School District has set a Veterans luncheon for 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, at the Spring Hill High School Library.


  • The Evening Pilot Club of Longview will hold an "Honoring Our Veterans" program at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, at Buckner Westminster Place Friendship Room at 2201 Horseshoe Lane. The speakers will be John Minor and Gerald Pinson. Music will be presented by Joe and Cheryl Chase of Gladewater. For information call (903) 918-1648.
