Thanks to quick thinking from people at a nearby home, one person was saved from a sinking vehicle in Nacogdoches County.

Firefighters with the Lilbert-Looneyville rescue team were dispatched to a one car accident on the 5400 block of Highway 204 around 3:15 p.m., according to fire officials. Once on scene, authorities learned an SUV had left the road at a high right of speed, crashed through a barbed wire fence and landed in a pond.

The vehicle reportedly sank to the bottom of the pond fast, however, people at a home close by witnessed the accident and rushed to the body of water to help. Two people were able to pull the lone passenger from the SUV before they drowned.

The Nacogdoches Fire Department dive team assisted a towing service to pull the submerged vehicle from the pond.
