Longview, TX — The Board of Good Shepherd Health System announced today their initiation of a national search for a new president and chief executive office following the departure of Ed Banos, who has served as the System’s leader since June of 2008.
“Ed has achieved many great accomplishments while serving as Good Shepherd’s leader,” said Buck Birdsong, chairman of the Good Shepherd Health System board. “We wish him luck and much success in his future endeavors.”
During his four year tenure, Banos was instrumental in bringing about many positive changes in the organization. Notably, it was Mr. Banos’ vision that aligned Good Shepherd with the University of Texas Health Science Center to establish the Internal Medicine Residency Program as well as our affiliation with the University of North Texas to help educate its medical students. He was also a driving force in the expansion of physician services, the development of shared governance among nurses and in the realignment of a System leadership structure.
A national search for a new president and chief executive officer will be conducted to identify someone with the vision to lead the organization far into the future. During this transition, Ken Cunningham, Executive Vice President, has been appointed the Interim Chief Executive Officer and will serve as a liaison between the organization and the Board. This search will seek input and advice from a wide array of employees, physicians, board members and community leaders as candidates move through the selection process.
“We have much to be proud of at Good Shepherd, serving as the area’s preferred provider for healthcare services in northeast Texas,” said Ken Cunningham, interim chief executive officer. “With a rich history of more than 75 years and a talented and dedicated team of medical staff, leadership and employees, Good Shepherd will continue with a bright and successful future ahead.”
