GOV. PERRY: Special Session to begin July 1, topics to include abortion regulation

UPDATED: Friday, June 28, 2013 - 3:51pm

Gov. Rick Perry today announced a Special Session of the Texas Legislature will begin at 2 p.m. Monday, July 1.

“I am calling the Legislature back into session because too much important work remains undone for the people of Texas. Through their duly elected representatives, the citizens of our state have made crystal clear their priorities for our great state. Texans value life and want to protect women and the unborn. Texans want a transportation system that keeps them moving. Texans want a court system that is fair and just. We will not allow the breakdown of decorum and decency to prevent us from doing what the people of this state hired us to do."

The special session will consider the following issues:

  • Legislation relating to the regulation of abortion procedures, providers and facilities.
  • Legislation relating to the funding of transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Legislation relating to establishing a mandatory sentence of life with parole for a capital felony committed by a 17-year-old offender.

Cost more tax money with a delay? Just wait until the price tag comes in both financially and socially on tens of thousands of unwanted, impoverished babies, and all because their mothers did not have access to safe and affordable abortions. Texas conservatives worship zygotes and tell living children to go rot, though, so I imagine it will just be more folks to fill those popular Texas prisons. That will line some rich pockets. Long-range thinkers run our state, huh?

So glad to have you joining the fight, good to have an intelligent, committed, vocal and great writer to help combat the incredible ignorance of East Texans who hate women, hate education for regular folks' children, who don't want adequate healthcare for ALL Texans, and who, really, don't give a tinker's dam about anyone who isn't ultra-conservative/ultra-religious/right-of-right/and full of faux news bilge water rhetoric. Please continue to post...YES WE CAN beat ignorance!!

Yep...and deef will be in the vanguard of those ultra-conservative, sanctimonious, super religious, right-of-right Texas legislators who want access to women's reproductive organs, want vaginal probes (especially on poor women), want to outlaw birth control of all kinds (condoms, too?), as well as the morning after pill...forget about women who are victims of rape or incest or, because of other circumstances, need want to rule every woman's body and mind...swell, deef!

Sooner or later the abortion law will pass. All the liberals did was delay and cost the people more tax money.
