Two months ago, a Texas deputy survived the scare of a lifetime when a man he pulled over shot him multiple times.

Now, police have released dashcam of the incident, which shows Montague County Sheriff's Deputy James Boyd taking three bullets to the chest.

The video shows Boyd walking behind a car he stopped due to suspicion. Just as he bends down to talk to the driver, he's popped twice in the chest and has a third bullet graze his head. The driver then speeds away.

An off-duty detective arrived in minutes to help the downed officer and called in a description of the suspect's vehicle.

Authorities were able to catch Evan Ebel, 28, in Decatur, Texas, where the suspect crashed his car and was killed in a gun fight with police.

Ebel is also believed to have killed a top Colorado prison official, as well as a delivery man, who is a father of three.

Thanks to Boyd's bullet-proof vest, he's currently recovering and expected to return to the line of duty this week.

Seems the reason no one stopped was because his car was blocking their view of him on the ground till they drove past (and I'm sure some were not even looking.)

The film shows how easy it is for someone to open fire on you if you just stick your head in and not be more careful. It's called the 'fatal funnel' and cops know to come up close to the car and just show the minimum of themselves needed before they check it out and are sure it's safe.
