The Greggton Community Center was busy Tuesday as residents cast ballots for the hotly contested Pct. 2 Commissioners Court race.

Of the 436 votes cast as of 5 p.m. in Gregg County on the first day of early voting for the March 4 primary, 171 were lodged at the community center in the heart of Pine Tree.

Gregg County Elections Administrator Kathryn Nealy said it was one of a few times the building had a larger turnout on the first day of early voting than the Gregg County Courthouse, which saw 170 voters.

“We have had very steady traffic. The good turnout in our Greggton area is because that is in our Pct. 2 contested commissioners race,” Nealy said.

The community center also serves as the offices of the Pct. 2 commissioner, the focal point of a heated race between five-term incumbent Darryl Primo and the challenger, Go West Longview co-founder Kimberly Fish.
