Gregg County commissioners on Monday distributed $20,000 to six local social service groups that were among 13 entities asking for some $110,000 from the county’s share of the 1999 state tobacco settlement.

Distributions come from interest on the $2.3 million local permanent fund. A letter from County Health Authority Dr. Lewis Browne asks County Judge Bill Stoudt to consider upping the distribution next year to $100,000, an amount the county formerly has awarded.
