Gregg County on Wednesday became the first county in the state to launch a program to identify communities that are workforce ready.

ACT, the company that produces the ACT college readiness test, has designed a national program for students, potential employees and employers that ranks a person’s skill set and provides training in deficient areas.

The ACT Certified Work Ready Communities initiative provides a means to ‘‘understand job skill requirements, measure individuals’ skills, develop skills to match requirements and certify individuals in essential skills,” according to information from ACT.

The program identifies if a community’s workers are ready to enter the workforce based on aptitude and knowledge assessments of specific skills.
