Voters do not need to register again to vote in the as-yet unset party primaries, contrary to claims in a bogus email in circulation, the Gregg County elections administrator said Wednesday.

“There’s an email flowing around telling voters they all have to re-register, and you do not,” said Elections Administrator Kathryn Nealy.

She said cards do list a Dec. 31, 2011, expiration date , but her office will mail out new cards as soon as district lines are established in the lawsuits.

The fake notice says automatic renewals will not be mailed this year because of the ongoing lawsuits over political jurisdictions. Those lawsuits, in federal courts in San Antonio and Washington, D.C., have delayed the primary date, which is proposed for May 29.

The unsettled date hasdelayed elections administrators from sending new registration cards to voters.
