A motion has been made to toss aside a suit that claims God has no place in the courtroom.

The conservative Liberty Institute calls the suit, which seeks to stop Wood County commissioners from opening sessions in prayer and displaying the motto “In God we trust,” frivolous.

According to KETK news partners, KTBB, Jeff McTeer, a spokesman for the Libery institute, says that the lawsuit is an attack on America's 200+ year history, since the country has always acknowledged religion's role in our society.

But Dr. Timothy Gorsky with the North Texas Church of Freethought disagrees.

Gorsky says, “That doesn’t mean that this is legal and is not an illegal endorsement of religion, which the Constitution bars the government from doing.”

Man was Obama ever right when he was overheard to say in the previous campaign " they cling to guns or religion and have an “antipathy to people who aren’t like them.”..... These groups appear every election season and blow their Christian doq-whistles and you idiots fall for it every time. Remember the nativity scene in Athens before the primary election? You'd pee green if you took the time to see how your Christian candidate votes on the serious issues like the economy and your job.

Our constitution was founded on the principles of God and I am proud that we still have elected officials that see that it is still important to have God in our public court rooms.

Really? Tell us which principles of God are mentioned in the Constitution...thanks.

What is going on in the USA?? Have we all turned into mindless robots? It seems people are trying to go with the least resistance (its easier) than to fight for our established and accepted ways. I really don't care what your religion is or the color of your skin or what your sex preference is. That is your own personal business. But to say I can't speak up for my preference because it might offend someone...well get over it and leave it alone. I don't tell you not show your preference.

If it wasn't the intent of the founding fathers/Costitution that there be a division between church and state, I'd say pray from the rooftops, the street corner, in the bread aisle at FRESH...but you know what, if you don't care if others show their faith preference, you won't mind a Jewish Rabbi, and Imam, a wican priestess, a Catholic priest, or any other representative of a faith based group, or even an athiest, giving his/her opinion right beside you, to have the privileges you do!

Who is telling you that you can't speak up for your preference? Why do you have to use the local government entity to speak through? Governments are supposed to speak for all, not just the few. When you open public meetings with prayers, you're automatically excluding various populations, not just the atheists. For, which prayer are you going to use that doesn't include someone's religion? If you're praying to the Abrahamic god, you're excluding Wiccans, Hindus, Sikhs and others.

FayBee- media leads you into these non-issues to divert your thought and motivate you. You won't question the real issues, you will be induced to believe in a vote that isn't meaningless, you will be motivated to vote for a candidate and feel as you have participated. No matter that both candidates are of the same faction. That the real issue is the economic take-over of our nation, that while you watch the in god we trust pea, in god-like goodness congress spends us bankrupt in entitlements.

Dr.Gorsky needs to use his members money which has In God We Trust on it to help people in need.He does not have any trouble passing the collection plate around and putting it in his pockets.Get a real Job and he will understantd the principles this nation was founded on more.

A medical Doctor is not a real job? Having "In God We Trust" on our money is also a violation of the Constitutional principle of separation of church and state. You don't get to hold up one violation as a justification for another.

Watching all these protestations about the presence or mention of God in our public places is definitely having an effect. I believe that God is lifting His hand of protection from our nation. (Do NOT confuse that with the idea that God is CAUSING what is happening here.) Unprecedented damage by fire. The worst drought ever in the USA. Failing crops. Failing students. National debt at $16 TRILLION. Unprecedented amount of people receiving welfare. etc. That is NOT a coincidence. BEWARE AMERICA!

Then your God is pretty damn petty and vain. We don't need magic man to explain the recent fires; global warming, which there is strong EVIDENCE for, is the cause.

Hahahaha - you really believe all that ?!! So how can you consider yourself rational in your politics if your thought is so irrational about religion? I can only assume that everyone who reads your comment understands the "dumb-down" fanatics that are motivated by Al Gore's brand of progressive pseudo-science. The politics of fear monger and media hype.

It will work both way gorsky....
