Group seeking to revive theater in Longview sets first production

As the lights dim and the curtains rise, a multitude of people — participants and audience members alike — are transported to another world where they can express themselves and examine the culture around them.

“Theater is one of the things that, I believe, has shaped our country culturally,” Melissa Edwards said. “Theater allows you to look at your culture with a critical eye, to examine it and make fun of it. It allows you to get away from the real world for a while, to step back and examine society.”

Edwards is among dozens of East Texans who are reviving an adult theater group in Longview based on their collective belief that theater plays an integral role in shaping a community.
