Gun found at school; student arrested
San Antonio, TX —
Northside Independent School District police arrested a Rayburn Middle School student Tuesday morning and accused him of possessing a firearm on school property, officials said.
Police arrested the sixth-grade boy, 12, at 10 a.m. after another student reported to the office that he had seen the boy showing off a handgun and had seen at least two other students handling the gun, district spokesman Pascual Gonzalez said.
Gonzalez said the gun was found in the boy's backpack and was not loaded.
The possession of a firearm at a school is a felony and, following due process, could result in expulsion from Rayburn and assignment to the Bexar County Juvenile Justice Academy, Gonzalez said.
