At some gun shops, you will see an empty shelf where at one time it was stacked with gun powder. Since the Sandy Hook shooting, not only is ammo in short supply, but gun powder is also back ordered for months.

"I was just going to get started reloading and all this happened and I haven't been able to get powder in you know it's completely out, it's been back ordered from every place online," said shooter Jeff Little.

Little and his wife are gun enthusiasts. But lately, he's been having problems getting the ammo and gun powder he needs. He said some places are back ordered on gun powder for more than six months.

"It seems like it's been long enough that suppliers should have had a chance to respond to that. I'm surprised they haven't yet," said Little.

He's even gotten in with three other people to stock up.

"We just put together a large order you know with some other people, so were on a waiting list." said Little.

Robert Quates at Lock & Load said gun powder was in short supply even before ammo was.

"The gun powder shortage started right before the ammo shortage last year during the Sandy Hook shooting," said Quates.

There are reports that across the country, citizens are stocking up on ammo, guns and gun powder because of their distrust in the government.

"When they see stuff might go wrong, that's when they start buying their reloading equipment," said Quates.

But, Quates said when it comes to professional shooters, most of them reload and they go through a lot of gun powder very fast.

"Most of them will buy enough to last a couple years just to keep it on stock, not too expensive when you're starting out, but right now it's pretty spending if you can find it."

Lock & Load doesn't expect to raise their prices due to the shortage, but Quates said this has been the longest shortage he's ever seen .

There is nothing NEW about the powder shortage. It has been going on for 3 years.
