Gunfire erupted near downtown Tyler overnight.

Shots were heard around midnight by both neighbors and police.

It didn't take police long to round-up several people they believed were involved. Police arrested Joseph Scott Mendoza, 22, who allegedly fired shots from a rooftop downtown.

Mendoza was booked in the Smith County Jail and charged with discharging a firearm within city limits and driving the wrong way on a one way street.

What was it? Late night partying?

I bet that is what happened. Some people are idiot enough to shoot guns in the air while drunk and partying.
