Hallsville brings home UIL academic state championship for first time

Hallsville High School sophomore Colin Lapic has been competing in math competitions since the sixth grade.

His hard work and determination paid off when his school’s team won the Division 4-A University Interscholastic League Academic State Championship in Austin.

It was the first-ever win for Hallsville in the competition.

The school placed first in literary criticism, calculator applications, and mathematics.

“We have put in a lot of hard work and it’s great to see the payoff,” Lapic said.

Math coach Mike Clay said it was “phenomenal” to see the team progress to a state title.
