Development is continuing to come to Hallsville — this time in the form of new rental duplexes and a new Whataburger restaurant.

The Hallsville City Council on Tuesday approved plans for the two properties. Both will be developed by the Henson Property Group.

The Longview company plans to build 10 duplexes for a total of 20 new rental units at FM 450 South.

Henson told the council that the new luxury units will have granite countertops, hardwood cabinets, and plank floors, among other amenities.

Each unit will be a minimum of 1,500 square feet, and would rent for about $1,400 per month, Henson said.

Construction is expected to be complete by the first of the year.

The Whataburger, to be built at the intersection of Cider Street and U.S. 80, is anticipated to be open by spring break, Henson said. Construction will begin in January.

The City Council also approved a $1.6 million budget for the 2012-13 fiscal year, which begins Oct. 1.

The balanced budget has funding for employee pay raises and street improvements, but no money for capital improvements, or new employee positions.
