TEXAS- A debate about allowing handguns on college campuses is rekindled after a shooting at the University of Texas last month.

Texas Representative Leo Berman says more than 300,000 Texans have concealed handgun licenses, and he is one of them.  He says college students who have that same license should get to use it.  "At Virginia Tech where they had a massive shoot-out, if someone would have had a concealed handgun on campus, they could have stopped the killing of so many students."

To get a concealed handgun license, you have to be 21, pass a background check, take a course, and...you can't be a felon.  Berman says that's exactly why college students who have that license should get to carry guns to class.

The bill went to Texas lawmakers last year, but it failed before it reached the House.

These days I call myself a gun-toting democrat--Republican on gun laws, and Dem on practically everything else, though I'm still Libertarian on some other things...

...so I actually, for once, agree with Mr. Berman here.
