Lufkin, Texas (KETK/Lufkin Daily News) — Harmony Christian School in Lufkin will be closing it's doors next year.
According to the Lufkin Daily News, the private school will be closed by may 2014.
The school was founded in 1996.
There are 61 students enrolled.
School administrators tell us the closure is due to a financial shortfall and gave KETK the following statement:
On Sunday night, December 01, 2013 the Harmony Hill church family met for their bi-annual church conference.
A major business item was the future of Harmony Christian School. For the last nineteen years Harmony Christian School has trained young minds for higher education challenges while, at the same time, developing a biblical world-view of God’s active role in world affairs and individual development and achievement.
The goals established for Harmony Christian School have never been forgotten and have guided the administrators and educators in training the young minds that have learned, inter-acted, and developed in the stable, loving, God-centered environment of Harmony Christian School.
It is therefore with deep sadness that the Elders and leadership of the Harmony Hill church family recommended that Harmony Christian School close its doors on the Harmony Hill Baptist Church campus at the end of this school year in May 2014.
The steady decline of enrollment since 2005 created a financial shortfall that Harmony Hill Baptist Church can no longer sustain for the school’s future.
The commitment of the Elders and of Harmony Hill Baptist Church to Christ-centered education with daily instruction in the teaching of the Holy Scriptures remains.
“We commend Administrator Tracye Brashear, the teaching staff and the School Board of Harmony Christian School for their dedication and unwavering commitment to teaching children in a Christ-centered educational atmosphere,” said Senior Pastor John Greene.
“Our prayer is that Harmony Christian School will find new life and will continue to train up and instruct the children of Angelina County in a new venue and with a fresh and expanded community support.”
