It’s no secret the Haynesville Shale isn’t what it used to be — but it’s showing signs of coming back.

Five years ago, other parts of the nation were envious of the activity in the Haynesville Shale, which stretches from Northeast Texas into Northwest Louisiana.

Billed as the largest natural gas field in the U.S., it was the hottest energy property in the nation. At its peak in 2010, nearly 190 drilling rigs were operating.

But all that changed as supply increased and the price of natural gas plummeted, pushing much of the drilling activity south to the Eagle Ford Shale, where drillers were able to extract more valuable crude oil and liquids from the ground.

In recent months, though, the Haynesville has been drawing operators back into the game.
