TYLER - As some parents continue to find the latest deal on back-to-school clothes— others have to make sure their children are up on all their shots.
It's a rite of passage every year.
If you have kindergartners, they have to get their shots before school starts.
One place parents get that done is the Northeast Texas Public Health District office on Broadway in Tyler.
But this Friday morning— what a line!
Mom Theresa Scott says, "I've been here since 7:30 and its now... what time is it? A line out to Municipal Court, and we're still waiting."
You've always needed patience when you bring the kids for their shots, but this year we counted 200 people in line, and we hear it was the same thing on Thursday.
This year— there is more of a strain on the system because there is a new state law.
George Roberts with the Northeast Texas Public Health District says, "There is always a rush to get your children immunized before the start of kindergarten. What is different now is the requirement for 7th graders. Now, 7th graders have to be checked for immunization updates."
What this means is more shots and a longer line.
Shots are eight bucks a piece.
And you need to know if you're kindergartner or 7th graders are not up to date on their shots, they can't go to class next week.
Roberts says, everyone will be taken care of.
But do to some building renovations going on at the current NE Texas Health District site, the shot clinic will be moved to the Discovery Science Place Annex Monday Morning on Broadway.
Shots start again at 8 am.
