A Henderson woman is in jail after pleading guilty to embezzling over $300,000 from the Longview I.S.D. Education Foundation.

Patricia Hesler was sentenced to serve one year in jail after pleading guilty to forgery and first-degree felony theft. She plead guilty to the charges in March, after she admitted to stealing $320,000 from the Longview I.S.D. Foundation while working as an administrative assistant for the accounting firm the foundation uses. The embezzlement took place over a four year period.

In addition to jail time, 10 years of probation and community service, Hesler will be required to pay back all $320,000 she stole.

The Longview I.S.D. Education Foundation is a non-profit organization that funds grants for educators to maximize the quality of education at Longview I.S.D.

Executive Director Kay Ray says finding out about the embezzlement didn't stop the foundation from helping students as usual.

"We found about the embezzlement and carried on. That's when we began the annual fundraising drive for our awards banquet..that went right on..from that we moved on to our annual restaurant card sale that we do, that can make up to $8,000 for the foundation. Longview I.S.D. Foundation has done nothing but try to raise money and support Longview I.S.D. campuses and classrooms."

Hesler has already paid back $260,000 of the restitution. She will be required to pay back the rest when she's released from jail.
