High winds, low rainfall ripe for East Texas wildfires

East Texas — A drier-than-normal March and higher-than-normal winds have combined to increase the threat of wildfires across Northeast Texas.
On Wednesday, the Texas A&M Forest Service reported wildfires in Harrison, Rusk, Marion, Wood and Bowie counties.
The largest, a 60-acre fire in Wood County, was reported contained as the sun went down.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Jason Hansford said conditions across the region are ripe for the development and spread of more wildfires.
