Kilgore, TX (Longview News-Journal) — Kilgore Director of Planning Carol Windham outlined an ambitious cleanup program Tuesday that includes litter abatement, dilapidated structure removal, entry corridor spruce-up and community gardens.
The plan and its 11 elements enlist local government, residents, the business community and even corporate America to make the City of Stars shine into 2014.
“I’m going to let everybody take a couple of weeks to look at it,” Windham told the City Council. “Give your ideas, give us your input.”
City Manager Scott Sellers said he would ask the council to adopt the plan at its next meeting. He said earlier Tuesday the plan, devised by city staff during about a six-month period, is more comprehensive than simple beautification projects common in Kilgore and other cities.
“We want to make a concentrated effort and get everybody involved in cleaning and beautification and taking pride in the city of Kilgore,” Sellers said.
