Ron and Connie Meissner said they were praying about retirement, and never expected what God's answer would be. Connie said, "we kept driving by this wonderful, beautiful hotel that was totally in disrepair." She said one day they casually walked into the historic Beckham Hotel in downtown Mineola curious about its history, and left as its owners.

"This building deserved to be saved," said Meissner. For 17 months now they have spent their own money to make the old railroad worker's hotel into a timeless masterpiece. Even though its been difficult, Meissner said its been worth it, "about the time you want to give up, the hotel will throw you something, she'll show you something, she will reward you in some way."

"The response has been overwhelming with the people," said Meissner. The restaurant portion called, Taste Budz, has been open for a few months, and Meissner said its been a hit. Carl and Michele Taylor are regulars at the diner, and said they are impressed. "Its going to be something very amazing," Michele said because "what it was before, it was like, you might as well tear the building down, so many people did say that."

In February, KETK was given a first look into the beginning stages of restoration. At the time there was bare walls, empty ceilings, and dusty shelves. Now, the hotel is almost completely finished. "When you walk through it now you honestly feel like you've stepped back into time," said Meissner.

They are still working on the top two floors which are rooms for guests to stay in, but are booking wedding receptions and events. Meissner also says they will have an paranormal spirit fest in October, and a grand opening by the new year.
