History lesson marks Harrison County’s 175th birthday celebration
Marshall — A standing-room-only crowd turned out Tuesday to mark the 175th birthday of Harrison County.
“It’s a treat to have all you here and to see so many faces,” Jean Birmingham, president of the Harrison County Historical Museum, told attendees at the county courthouse. “It’s a surprise, but a (lovely) surprise.”
She called the county one of the best in the state.
“It just so happens (that) 175 years ago today, the president of the Republic of Texas signed an act that created Harrison County,” Birmingham said. “Today, 175 years later, I have the honor of welcoming each of you to this occasion, a ceremony where we are celebrating the history of our county.”
