SMITH COUNTY - An East Texas couple is dead, after a fire starts in their bedroom.

Two sons are mourning the loss of their parents Wednesday afternoon

The couple was killed in a house fire.

It happened early this morning on County Road 1297 in Smith County.

Our news crews were first on the scene.

Flames shooting up to 30 feet in the air

Ammunition was heard popping inside a bedroom with a man and his wife inside.

Firefighters arrived to a house— too dangerous to go into.

Captain Matt York with the Dixie Fire Department says, "If any body is in there. There's nothing you can do."

Their only clues — a distraught son, reaching out to help his disabled parents.

Smith County Assistant Fire Marshal Marilynn Wilson says, "He and his mother tried to put out the fire prior to calling 9-1-1."

57 year old Billy Joe Page Junior was a paraplegic, weighing four hundred pounds.

Fire crews knew this house — after getting called out to help lift the man three weeks ago.

Captain York says, "I told him exactly where they would be at the house."

This time, his wife Charlotte and son Jacob could not get him out of the house.

Captain York says, "It's a tragedy. My heart goes out to the family."

By daybreak, investigators begin getting answers.

Captain York says, "She may have lingered to long trying to get him out and the son got out."

The blaze woke up neighbors - they now realized they've lost their friends.

Bob Mcarther says, "It's kinda sad."

Bob and Mary Mcarthur say, it's been a difficult time for the page family.

After Charlotte had a stroke and a wreck, both parents couldn't work anymore.

Their house got foreclosed on.

Bob Mcarther says,"When I went up there last night, he was crying a lot."

Mr. Mcarthur says, the 19-year-old son had to go to work and school and take care of his parents.

Bob Mcarther says,"he said please pray for me."

Now he needs more prayers as he mourns for a difficult loss.
