There’s been another big auto recall, this time involving Honda sport utility vehicles.
And the numbers are pretty staggering.
This time, over a quarter of a million vehicles.
But for Honda overall, 2012 has become the year of the recall.
Honda is one of those iconic nameplates that has become synonymous with quality.
It’s a reputation that is well earned over the years since the first 360 sedans were imported over 40 years ago.
But it’s been a tough year for Honda this year. Big recalls of the Civic, Pilot and lately, the Accord. And now the very popular CRV sport utility vehicle…not these new ones here at Jack of Diamonds, but the 2002-2006 model. The problem is a potential for fire.

“Water gets in through the door panel, which is normal,” Hilton said, “water gets in, but an excessive amount can get in through the driver’s power window switch, and cause the printed circuit board inside the switch to overheat, and melt the switch causing the window not to work. The window may or may not operate. That would be the first sign that you have a problem, if the window’s intermittently not working or not working at all.”
Hilton says customers will get a letter from Honda. Then, they should call the dealership.
“We’ll do an inspection, and if the window switch has not been wet or damaged, we’re going to pretty much waterproof the switch where water does not get inside the switch.” He says.

This is another blow to the automaker this year, starting in the spring, when 60,000 Accords were recalled for leaky power steering hoses. Then nearly 600,000 more were added this week along with over 800,000 Civics and Pilot vehicles for headlight failures.
And there is another investigation underway by the feds.
Honda Odyssey and Pilot vehicles are suspected of rolling after the key is removed with the vehicle in park.
