TOKYO – Honda Motor Co (7267.T) said on Friday it would recall a total 646,000 units of the Fit/Jazz and City models globally, including 140,000 in the United States.
The recall covers the models sold in North America, South America, Europe, South Africa and Asia, but not Japan, a spokeswoman said.
The Fit is Honda's best-selling model in Japan.
Honda said the recall was to fix a defective master switch, which could cause water to enter the power window switch and in some cases cause a fire.
There were three reported cases of fires due to the defect, two in the United States and one in South Africa, the spokeswoman said.

Economical industries are eager to establish better production. Well, Germany is a good example for other countries and maybe it would be better to make some changes and apply German’s way of economical management. People complain that the US can't make good cars anymore, and apparently the Japanese can't either. You have the Toyota recall, the Honda recall, and NOW the Nissan recall – and a GM recall, too. Nissan is recalling over 500,000 vehicles due to a faulty brake pin or fuel gauge. Models affected include the Titan, QX56, Armada, and Quest minivan (brakes), and the Frontier, Pathfinder, and Xterra have the faulty fuel gauges as well as the Titan, QX56, and Armada. It will cost them a lot more than a few payday loans. Most car recalls are errs on the side of caution – though the formula is ringing in my ears, of A times B times C, equals X.
Its true about the Honda Fit. Water leaks in the driver floor board, the rear passenger floor boards, and from the trunk. Its ahorrible issue! My honda fit is a 2008 model. Tyler, TX honda dealership won't fix it because they claim that its past the 36,000 mile warranty since I have 60,000 miles. I even purchased the platinum extended 100,000 mile warranty that the sales men kept insisting on when I purchased the vehicle. Even this extended warranty does not cover water leaks!!!!!! Now, they have this recent national recall on water leaks, and they still won't fix it. Stay away from Honda. Its a big headache with no customer service.
On the Toyota Recall list, it has the Materix as one of the effected Auto's.
The Pontiac Vibe, is Manufactured by Toyota, and is the EXACT same car as the Matrix, only with Pontiac Logo's and such.
Why is it not on the recall list??
