Hope for the Wounded Warriors

Meet Kurt. He carries a little buddy around with him everywhere he goes.

"R2-D2 I call it," said Kurt Kosmatka. "My little portable oxygen concentrate."

And not by choice. He was a healthy, strong soldier and one day everything changed.

"We don't know what exactly happened to me."

He was in a coma for a short period, blind for another. He is fatigued, has trouble breathing. And even though it is physically hard for him to keep his head up --

"I'm missing muscles so I have to hold my head with my hand, it's like a bowling ball," Kosmatka said.

Mentally, he spends everyday with his head held high.

"I have a future, I'm here, I'm alive," Kosmatka said. "I think God's got me here for a purpose, so I want to fulfill that purpose."

And he is not alone, every soldier that was out there Saturday has gone through some sort of trauma.

"We all have our own challenges," Kosmatka said. "And we all respect that of each other."

From brain injuries to missing limbs, each of these men lost something on the battle field.

"All my brothers have their own unique problems," Kosmatka said.

And this weekend Hope for the Warriors was able to provide them with an escape from the routines and hardships of their everyday life.

"It's good for them to get away and just enjoy getting away from the hospital," said Dick Goetz, Chairman of the Texas Wounded Warrior Foundation.

Let's all hope that, if the gov't. shutdown actually goes into effect at midnight tonight, none of our valiant/proud veterans get sick, because the tea party in the House and Senate will be responsible for, among other things, shutting down funds for medical care for them..write your tea swilling reps and senators telling them how proud you are that they stood fast for your principles and saved this country lots of money by not funding medical care for these brave men and women...JERKS!.
