Gilmer, TX (KETK) — The Upshur County Hope House for Pets is getting closer to providing a much needed animal shelter for Upshur County.

Sometime this month the group will build an intake facility behind the Animal Medical & Surgical Hospital. The intake facility will allow the group to keep several animals there at one time and treat them instead of sending them to the Humane Society of Northeast Texas or another facility.

The cleanup is scheduled for this weekend but is weather permitting.

Once the intake is completed animals that come in will be updated on shots, tests will be done, and they will be spayed and neutered if necessary.

Upshur County Hope Hose for Pets has also applied for their 501c to become a charity. The group tells KETK the IRS has received their application and is going through the process.
