The Nutrena USEA American Eventing Championships kicked off at Tyler Rose Horse Park Thursday morning.

It's the first time this international competition has been held in the Lone Star State

Organizers say they chose Texas to help expand the sport, and they chose East Texas, because of the first class facilities.

Now these events are usually held in the eastern part of the country, but by bringing this to Texas, organizers say it will help serve the middle of the country, a part of the country event president Brian Sabo says is vastly under served.

Thursday's  competitions were all about dressage, an event that takes dedication and skill to keep you horse under control, with cross country getting started tomorrow.

But Sabo says, it wasn't just the location, that made them decide on East Texas, it was the dedication, and volunteer spirit of the people in the area.
